The Great White Throne Judgement

The Great White Throne Judgement

An inevitable Judgment

updated 03/24/18

What happened when a wicked man died? Where he/she is taken? What The Scriptures says about hell and the people in it? We will answer all these questions through The Scriptures.

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Rev. 20:11-15

Many people refused to accept this biblical event which will take place right after the conclusion of “The Millennial ruling of Christ upon the earth”. But whether you believe it or not this event will take place.

This is the judgment of every person who has been born with the sinful nature, which was passed on through Adam’s rebellion. As it is stated in the following passages:

“For since by man (Adam) came death, by man (Christ) came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in ADAM ALL DIE, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Cor. 15:21-22

Even person born on this planet has inherited Adam’s nature, which is spiritual dead. This spiritual dead nature is what gives Satan the right to rule over them. Satan was the first being to received this nature, which separated any creature from God. Isa. 14:12-14; Ezequiel 28:11-17.

Who are these before God? Well, let’s review verse 12

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God”

First it says “I saw THE DEAD…..STAND”. If these beings are “DEAD” how is it that they are “STANDING”? The reference in here is to “spiritual dead” or “anyone that has been separated because of their sinful nature”. Why are they standing? To receive their sentence. God has given to anyone who has been born with a sinful nature, the opportunity to change it through the sacrifice of His Son. This is stated in a well known passages:

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM (Jesus) should NOT PERISH, but have ETERNAL LIFE. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God (The Father) SENT NOT HIS SON into the world (which was by birth) to CONDEMN the world; but that the world THROUGH HIM MIGHT BE SAVED. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:14-18

Every sinful person will be standing before God at that day. So, in verse 12 says “I saw the dead, SMALL and GREAT, stand before God”. “Small and Great” is related to any form of human status, whether they were just a simple person or one with strong influence in the human world. “Small and Great” involved “any level of government authority or rulers and the subjects of such government”; “any level of social status”. The terms “Small and Great” is extended to any concept related to men. All the wicked men will be sentenced for their crimes against God’s laws. Evil men like Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden, Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin, Emperor Hirohito of Japan, Idi Amin Dada, Ruhollah Khomeini, Maximilien Robespierre, Saddam Hussein, Heinrich Himmler, Nero, Hugo Chavez, etc. All the atheists, the rapists, murderers, homosexuals, sorcerers, adulterous, thieves, etc. Every sinner will be sentenced for their wicked ways and rebellions. Many famous people who lived in a sinful condition will be condemned in that day.

What about “Stephen Hawking” who recently died? He was an atheist and denied the creation of all things by God. He said “there is a “grand design” to the universe, but it has nothing to do with God”. Just like it is written in Rom. 1:22

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools”

Here is the list of others famous atheists that will join Hawking in that day; “Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett, Steven Pinker, Michael Shermer, Peter Singer, etc.

Did you know that hell gets “stir up” every time someone is taken there? The Scriptures gives us an insight of this event:

“Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.” Isaiah 14:9

The Scriptures clearly stated the place where an unnumbered of people will spend eternity in a constant suffering. Dispite the denial of the existence of this place by atheists, ungodly men, philosophers, etc. They will go into hell, which is a “temporary place of torment”, which after they will appear before God in the “Great White Throne Judgement” to be sentenced for their sinful lives. Hell is just the beginning of the real suffering that every person will experience, regardless if they believe it or not. In fact, they will be punished because willingly they had decided not to believe in God’s Word.

Now, let’s breakdown the passage of Isaiah 14:9. The Hebrew word used for “hell” is “she’ôl”, which is translated as follow: “sheol, underworld, grave, hell, and pit”; “The place of no return”; “The specific place for the inward man to be held in suffering until he is cast out into the lake of fire after the physical body is resurrected in corruption”; “The only place created by God where praise to The Must High is completely absent”. Satan has made many people believe that hell is just a “human fabrication”, that such place doesn’t exist. Others sees hell as paying for your crimes here on earth, which is inspired by philosophical ideas and fallacies. Hundreds of prophecies had been fulfilled as it was written by God and hundreds more will be fulfilled, including the punishment of every wicked man. But hell is a real place where a great number of people are descending constantly for refusing to change their lifestyle. Sheol is used 65 different times in the Old Testament. The Greek word used as an equivalent to the Hebrew word sheol is “Hades”, which is involved the same meanings as the Hebrew word. Many pagans ideas had been used in reference to the place of torment or hell, even Christian churches had adopted some of these pagans ideas, which had brought confusion among believers. You must be aware of the raising of people writing books about fallacies, which are introduced as Bible teachings but that is a lie. Why can I tell when a book is aligned with The Scriptures? You must use spiritual discernment and it’s very important that you enriched yourself with the Word of God. In reference to this observe what is stated in Col. 3:16

“Let THE WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU RICHLY IN ALL WISDOM; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

The Greek word used for “dwell” is “enoikeō”, which is used metaphorically in the sense of “to influence”. This is how God influenced upon a person; through Hid divine principles. God will never force anyone to do His will, instead God persuade them in Love and through His Word. This is why is critical the teaching of God’s Word.

Most Christian believers don’t know the difference between hell and the lake of fire. Why is this? Because of the lack of teaching of God’s Word in the churches. One common mistake that most churchgoers does is the pass on of fallacies and false doctrines from one generation to another. Hell is a temporary place of torment for anyone that died without having Christ as personal savior. Read John 14:6. Religious knowledge won’t save you from the eternal punishment because of your sinful nature. Neither attending for years to a building called church. Salvation doesn’t depend upon of the things you do or you don’t do, it’s a GIFT FROM GOD! Read John 3:16; 4:10; Rom. 5:15; 6:23; 8:32; 2 Cor. 9:15 and “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Let’s continue with the explanation of the key words of Isaiah 14:9. “Hell from BENEATH”, which placed the location of the place of no return or hell. This is confirmed by the Hebrew word “tachath” which is translated “under or beneath” in the context of the text. Some people believe that he’ll is here on earth, where you get punished but that’s not what the biblical doctrine says. Jesus confirmed also the location of hell in Mat. 12:40 “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth”. It’s obvious that “heart” in this passage is a reference to the center of the earth. Which is confirmed by Paul in Ephesians 4:9-10

“(Now that he (Jesus) ascended, what is it but that he also DESCENDED FIRST INTO THE LOWER PARTS OF THE EARTH? He that DESCENDED is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)”

When Jesus died upon the cross He went to the lowers parts of the earth, where hell and Abraham’s bosom is located. This is according to the real story told by Jesus himself in Luke 16:19-31. Many writers have called Luke 16:19-31 a parable but these passages are not because you don’t use “proper name” in a parable. Jesus called Abraham by his own name, which made these passages “a real story”. In the book of Luke 16:19-31 Jesus established the two different places where the departed people will end and the conditions on each place. So, The Scriptures clearly established that hell is located in the lower parts of the earth or beneath it, as it is stated in Isaiah 14:9.

Another key word used in Isaiah 14:9 is “Hell from beneath is “MOVED FOR THEE TO MEET THEE”. The word from the Hebrew language used for “moved” is “râgaz”, which is translated as “tremble, quake, rage, quiver, be agitated, be excited, be perturbed”. The word “râgaz” is connected with “hell”, which is “agitated, disquiet or disturbed”. Why does it say “MOVED OR AGITATED FOR THEE”? What the passage is expressing is that “Hell gets in a tumultuous state with the arrival of each individual that is cast in”. Even the expression “to MEET thee” suggested that. The Hebrew word used for “meet” is “qârâ”, which is translated “to encounter, befall, and meet”. The encounter can happen “unexpectedly” in certain situations. Now, observe what the passage is expressing “Hell from beneath (location) is moved (agitated) for thee to meet (to receive) thee AT THY COMING”. In other words; when the person is sent to hell, it gets agitated to make an encounter, which can be unexpected for some”. This passage is sharing light about what happened when someone died without redemption and he is cast out in the place of torment. Remember the rich man from the story told by Jesus in Luke 16?

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, BEING IN TORMENTS, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; FOR I AM TORMENTED IN THIS FLAME.” verses 23-24

-The Scriptures says that “the rich man also DIED, and was BURIED” verse 22. The expressions “died and buried” applies only to “the physical body” of the rich man and not to his inward person. Observe that in the last part of verse 25 says ” For I am tormented in this flame”. The soul is where the feeling are located, so the people who has departed from this earth having the sinful nature doesn’t necessarily need a physical body to feel pain.

-Wealth does not guarantee a free passage to God’s heaven as many people think. Also notice how the rich man made a petition to Abraham, who cannot answer it; “Have mercy on me”. Once in hell no one will have mercy on you. This very very clear in the answer by Abraham;

“But Abraham said, Son, REMEMBER that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.” verses 25-26

The word “Remember” proves that the mind is in the brain, which is just a physical organ that the body used to store the information that receives through the physical sense. The mind is located in the soul of every person, which keeps the memories even after death.

-The souls of the righteous went to Abraham’s bosom, which it can be seeing from hell “And in hell he (the rich man) LIFT UP HIS EYES, being in torments, and SEETH Abraham AFAR OFF, and Lazarus in his bosom”. Verse 23. The place called “Abraham’s bosom” is emptied at the present time, because Jesus “translated” them to the paradise which is located in the third heaven. As it’s stated in the following passages:

“Wherefore he saith, When he (Jesus) ascended up on high, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE, and gave gifts unto men.” Ephesians 4:9

“I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one CAUGHT UP (rapture or translated) to THE THIRD HEAVEN”.  And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that HE WAS CAUGHT UP INTO PARADISE, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” 2 Cor. 12:2-4. All the righteous of the Old Testament and of the New Testament are taken to paradise in the third heaven. Since most Christian people don’t know what is exactly “The Third Heaven”, I feel the need to explain it in a biblical context. The Third Heaven is God’s place of ruling the entire universe, it is where He have His Throne and His Holy City; The New Jerusalem. Because we are covering a different subject, I cannot explain it in-depth but I will provide you with some passages related to this subject:

“The Lord is in his holy temple, THE LORD’S THRONE IS IN HEAVEN: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.” psalms 11:4
“But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven (Third Heaven); for it is God’s throne” Mat. 5:34
“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a THRONE  was set in HEAVEN, and ONE SAT ON THE THRONE.” Rev. 4:2

God The Father is the one that is sat on the throne, which is located in the third Heaven. After the ruling of Christ on earth, which is for one thousand years, God will move His throne from the third Heaven to planet earth and God with rule the entire universe from earth. This is exactly what God wanted to do in Gen. 1:1 but God’s purpose was postponed because of lucifer and Adam rebellion. God will destroy all His enemies through the ruling of Christ upon the earth:

“For he (Christ) must reign, till he hath put ALL ENEMIES under his feet” 1 Cor. 15:25

God will be The Supreme Ruler of the whole universe as it was in Gen. 1:1.

Now, please allow me to continue with the explanation of Isaiah 14:9, which provide us with more details about the arrivals of the wicked into hell. “Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: IT STIRRETH UP THE DEAD FOR THEE, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations”. The Hebrew word used for “it Stirreth up” is -‛ûr- which means “to rouse oneself, awake, awaken, incite”. It’s very important to connect every word in the same context of the event involved. In this instance the expression “it stirreth up” is followed by “the dead”, which in Hebrew is -râphâ’- and translated as “ghosts of the dead, shades, and spirits”. Because the reference in here is to “the place of no return or hell”, the spirits or the dead is referred to “the inward person of every human being”. The expression “ghost of the dead” implied the invisible man apart from the mortal body, which is in tormented just as the rich man of Luke 16:29-31. So, according with these words “the dead in hell are agitated when there’s a new comers”. All these people are in constant torment in every single way and the worse punishment is yet to come. Satan has deceived many people making them to believe that there’s an escape from this place of torment but there is no record of it in The Scriptures. There’s no limbo, purgatory or anything like it, after your physical body died, your inward person will be taken to either hell or Heaven. I don’t believe in such things as hell or Heaven, many will reply, but regardless of what you believe, The Scriptures will be fulfilled. Just as it’s stated in Hebrews 9:27.

“And as it is APPOINTED unto MEN once to die, but AFTER this the judgment”

The Greek word used for “appointed” is “apokeimai”, which means “reserved for one, awaiting him, to be laid away, laid by”. The word imply that “there’s a specific time and place where every person will be before God to be judge”. There’s only groups of people that will be before God; The rigtheous people will be before Christ to be rewarded for their obedience to the divine calling, which will take place right after the rapture of the church. The other group will be before to be punished eternally for their blasphemy and sinful lifestyle, which will take place right after the millennium. Also, this passage clearly stated that men die only one time, so the beliefs that people reincarnate after they died is completely false.

Hell agitates or stirreth up all the people that are in it, to receive every wicked man. As the rich man of Luke 16:9-31 recognized Lazarus and Abraham after he arrived in hell, many will recognize family members, friends and people they once knew. The same scenario happens in paradise when a new comer enter in it, there’s a welcome and a rejoicing among all the people. Both groups have to wait for their respective resurrection; the righteous will receive a glorified body at the rapture of the church (1 Tes. 4:13-17) while the wicked will receive a corrupted body, which will live forever in torment in the lake of fire. “But the rest of the dead LIVED NOT AGAIN until the thousand years were finished” Rev. 20:5. After they receive their corrupted bodies, they will be before God to be sentenced and cast out into the lake of fire for all eternity.

To be continued…
