Topic: The New Birth, New Creation in Christ.

Base Text: John 3:1-12

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:3-6

In John 3:1-12 Jesus makes using a key phrase in the transformation of the human being, and is the expression “born again.” Notice that Jesus told Nicodemus;

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again he can not see the kingdom of God.” Verse 3
– The new birth is the act by which God imparts His nature (eternal life) to those who accept the justification that he provided.

  • The new birth in the biblical context means, “Being born from above”, and literally means “must be a part of God Transformation and Renewal in divine justice and holiness to be saved.” 2 Cor. 5:17-21, Ephesians 5:22-24, Col. 1:13-14, 20, 2:12-17, 3:1-6.

Stating that “No one can walk in the same dimension where God dwells unless born again.” The new birth occurs internally at the same time we confess Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives. Romans 10:8-10.

More about the new spiritual birth:

  • Paul expands the thought expressed by Jesus about the new birth in 2 Corinthians 5:17.
  • That’s the price that Jesus paid that we have the right to be called “Children of God”. John 1:12-13
  • We are adopted as “sons of God” to be born again. Galatians 4:5.
  • Our “position as sons of God” is given us to be born again. Romans 8:14-16. Compare also Ephesians 1:5.

Man was created in union with God and his grace and favor, but he fell from that “Position” became a creature (Mark 16:15; Rom. 3:23) but through the experience of being “Born Again” can return to be in union with God and His grace.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Eph. 2:8-9

Evidence of having experienced the New Birth:

a) keep his commandments. 1 John 2:3-5, John 14:21-24, 15:10.
b) Walking as He walked. 1 John 2:6,29, 3:7, 4:17, 5:1-18.
c) we love the brethren. 1 John 2:7-11, John 13:34-35, 15:12-13, 1 Cor. 13.
d) Our sins were forgiven. Ephesians 1:7, Col. 2:13; Rev. 1:5, 1 John 1:9, 2:12.
e) We remain in his word. John 8:31-32, 15:7, Rom. 1:16, 1 John 2:14.
f) We do the Will of God. John 15:18, 17:16, Rom. 12:1-2; James  4:4, 1 John 2:15-17.
g) We stay in unit. John 17:11, 21; Rom. 16:17, Ephesians 4:1-3, 1 John 2:18-19.
h) Taking The Anointing of the Holy and Truth in us. John 7:37-39, 14:16-17, 26, 15:26, 16:7-15, 1 John 2:20.

8 blessings we receive through the new birth:

We received the power or ability to do justice (or fairness). 1 John 2:29.
• Our current position as children of God. 1 John 3:1-3, 8-10.
• Complete freedom from sin. 1 John 3:9, 5:18.
• genuine love for the brethren. 1 John 4: -8; 3:14-18; 5:1.
• Love to God as our Father. 1 John 4:19, 5:1-3.
• Power and skills to make and keep the commandments of the NT John 1:12, 14:15, 15:14, 1 John 5:2-3.
• To be able to overcome the world. 1 John 5:4-5.
• Freedom from the power of darkness. Col. 1:13, 1 John 5:18.

  • James 1:18 says;
“He (God) of His will He brought us forth (in spirit) with the word of truth, that we are the first fruits of his creatures.”

The expression “… by the word of truth ..” implies that this is one of “divine agents used by God to make men new creatures”. John 3:5, 1 Peter 1:23, Ephesians 5:26.

  • The Will of God is that “all men to be saved.” Read 1 Timothy 2:4. But because God gave man “free will”, also known as “The ability and the right to decide for or against God”, Salvation depends on a “voluntary choice of each person.” In Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
