Names of Bible Fallacies

Names of Bible Fallacies

Updated 05/15/17

Here is the list of doctrines that are not supported by the Scriptures, which are fallacies or doctrines of men. Read Mat. 15:7-9; Mar. 7:6-13. These These fallacies are the results of the interpretation of the biblical texts out of their context. The bible is the easier book to understand if we follow 2 basic rulers: 1)- Take the passage or text literal as it is written. If there is a discrepancy because of the literal interpretation, the harmony of the passage or text can be found in the use of allegory interpretation. We must find “The subject Matter” of the passage, which must harmonize with the context in which such passage was written. 2)- Believe that what you are reading is “true”.

Very important observation: “Never SPIRITUALIZE the meaning of a passage of the Scriptures”. This is a huge mistake that many people are doing and it’s causing confusion to many people. We must filter any argument or doctrine through the Scriptures and find out what God had said about it. Never place our own opinions above the Scriptures. Take the Scriptures “LITERALLY” when it is possible and don’t change the meaning of the passage unless the language that it is expressed in it  becomes conflicting with the context in which it was written. In other words, the harmony of the passage with the context must remain and it can’t be alter when we read it.

There are about 1,400 fallacies, which have no biblical support and many are been teach as doctrines today.

  • The Antichrist will rule the whole world”

The bible limits the ruling of the antichrist to “The Old Roman Empire territory”, which had territories in parts of three continents: Europe (western Europe up to the rivers Rhine and Danube and southeastern Europe) part of western Asia and North Africa. The book of Daniel 7 mentioned the formation of “10 kingdoms” (symbolized by the ten horns) in the latter days, from which the antichrist will be their ruler.

“And the ten horns OUT OF THIS KINGDOM are ten kings that shall arise: and another SHALL ARISE AFTER THEM; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.” Dan. 7:24

The antichrist can not be reveal UNTIL the ten kingdoms are form in the same territory of the Old Roman Empire. Notice that the Verse said “Another (horn or kingdom) shall arise AFTER THEM”. In another words, the antichrist can’t be manifested until these ten kingdoms are in place. In the same chapter 7 of Daniel reveals more details about the formation of these ten kingdoms and the way the antichrist will rise to power.

“And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the OTHER which came up, and before whom THREE fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.” Dan. 7:20
“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.” Dan. 7:24

Who are these three kingdoms that will be subdue by the antichrist in his rising to power? Egypt, Turkey and Macedonia. According to the book of Daniel, the antichrist will come from Syria, which is one of the divisions of the Grecian Empire. The antichrist coming from Syria will defeat these three kingdoms in his rising and the other six kingdoms will give power to him.

“For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.” Rev. 17:17

It will take the antichrist three and a half years to take control of these 10 kingdoms, after which he will go to kill the Jewish nation.

“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in THE MIDST of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Dan. 9:27

Compare with Mat. 24:15-21; Mar. 13:14-21.

After the antichrist became the ruler of the ten kingdoms (which will take him three and a half years), he will go and fight against the nations “East and North” of the ten kingdoms, which at that time are not under his ruling. This war is brought up by God in order to preserve the Jews from complete inhalation from the invasion of the antichrist’s armies. This is how God intervene to shortened the persecution of the Jews and fulfilling Mat. 24:22:

“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”
But tidings out of the EAST and out of the NORTH shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.” Dan. 11:44

Who are these nations that will fight against the antichrist in the second half of the great tribulation? All nation who are located “East and North” of the Old Roman Empire territory. These are some of them: “Russia, Germany, China, Japan, South and North Korea, Australia, etc.”. It will take the antichrist three and a half years to conquer these counties, which will come with him back to Israel to finish what he couldn’t because of this war. In this act, the antichrist will come back to Israel fulfilling Ezeq. 38 and 39 as “The Leader” of the North. The antichrist will become the king of the north after conquering these nations and not because he originated from there. So, to resume the ruling of the antichrist in the seven years of great tribulation is as follow: 1)- He will become the ruler of the ten kingdoms, which are a formation of the Old Roman Empire. 2)- He will conquer the kingdoms East and North the second half of the seven years. Because he is killed at the end of these seven years, he can’t conquer no more countries but those involved in these wars. The ruling of the antichrist is limited by 7 years, after which he will be kill by Christ personally in the battle of Armageddon.

“And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.” Dan. 11:45
“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.” 2 Th. 2:8
“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” Rev. 19:20

The antichrist won’t rule The United States, South and Central America, Canada, Iceland, etc. He will rule over the nations which are under the Old Roman Empire Territory and the nations East and North the the ten kingdoms, as we explained above.

Here is a interesting question, What about Rev. 13:16-17 that it use the word “All”?

First, Let’s read the passages and see what is the subject matter under the context in which the passages were written:

“And he causeth ALL, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to RECEIVE a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

These passages refers to the decree that the antichrist will make to force ALL THE SUBJECTS OF HIS KINGDOM TO BE BRANDED. The word “ALL” in these passages is used in connection with the antichrist kingdom, which will be establish on the Old Roman Empire territory. In other words, “All” is used in a limited sense, which in this case it is related to the “Subjects of the kingdom of the antichrist”.

Another point we must observe is this one: “If the antichrist is going to rule ALL the world, why in Daniel 11:44 states the following: “But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.” These countries “EAST AND NORTH” of the ten kingdoms will declare war against the antichrist, which obviously ARE NOT UNDER THE RULING OF THE ANTICHRIST. Remember that these nations will fight against the antichrist in the second half of the seven years of great tribulation. Among these nations are Russia, Germany, Poland, China, etc.

Also observe what Daniel 11:44 states about some countries scaping the antichrist:

“He (The antichrist) shall enter also into the glorious land (Palestine), and MANY (NOT ALL) COUNTRIES shall be overthrown: but THESE SHALL ESCAPE OUT OF HIS HANDS, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.”

Who are these countries that will escape the antichrist? They are called in Daniel “Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon”. These are modern Jordan, which is the place that God had prepared for them to be protected from the antichrist after the invasion at the end of the first three and a half years of tribulation. Read Rev. 12:6

The theory that the antichrist will rule the whole earth is a fallacy. The only kingdom that will rule ALL THE EARTH is the kingdom of Jesus Christ after the great tribulation period had ended.

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” Rev. 20:4
“Because the creature (Nature) itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.” Rom. 8:21

The curse will be removed from the earth under the ruling of Jesus Christ!

  • 10 corrupted ideas, which are a totally fallacies”

Here are the basic definitions of these pagan fallacies:

  1. Dualism: This concept support the idea of tow eternal and opposing principles or beings, which means, one good and one evil.
  2. Monism: Which support the idea of “All thing are made of one substance”, which made man and God made of the same essence and substance but different in person. Also that the universe is a manifestation of God. The bible expressed a different teaching, which states that God’s essence and substance is different that man. The substance of God is expressed as “Spiritual beings” and not material substance as man is. Even the spiritual body of the angelic beings are different than God’s essence and substance.
  3. Polytheism: This concept support the idea of many “gods”.  The core of this concept support the teaching of a “god in every thing in nature and also in every phase of life”. This concept is the real result of Apostasy as it is expressed by Paul to the brothers in Rome. Rom. 1:20
  4. Atheism: This concept support the idea of “The denial of the existence of a supreme being”. The Greek word for “atheos”, which means “Without God”. It’s used only 1 time in the N.T. in the book of Eph. 2:12 but the idea under the context of the text is different on the concept which the word means today. In Eph. 2:12 the word implied “Outside of God’s covenant”, which it connected with the gentiles nations. What the Scriptures says about those who denial the existence of God? Here it is: “The FOOL hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Psalm 14:1, which is repeated in Psalm 53:1
  5. Agnosticism: This concept support the idea that “God Can’t be known”. The meaning of “Agnosticism” is “Not knowing or I do not know”. The Scriptures clearly express the idea of “God can be known or understood through Jesus”. John 1:18 says: “No man hath seen (understood with the mind) God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath DECLARED him.”. Without Jesus is impossible to comprehend God.
  6. Pantheism: This concept support the idea of “God being in all things, such as animals, trees, plants, etc. Just like all these concepts, this is a twisted fallacy, which is the result of Apostasy as it is expressed in Rom. 1:21-32
  7. Deism: This concept support the idea of “God created the world and set it up into motion but he won’t interfere in any way. This concept relies on the “reasoning of the human mind and the intellect. This is the foundation of every gentile nation, which based upon their own human abilities.
  8. Materialism: This concept support the idea of “Denial of the eternal soul”. They based their teaching on the belief that “all manifestation and all forces are properties of the matter”, or “Matter over mind”. The main idea expressed by the followers of this teaching is that “Man is a machine and not responsible for his own actions”.
  9. Metaphysicalism: This concept support the idea of “Mind over matter”. It based they belief in the idea of “God as universal mind” and also that “Sin, creation, death, suffering, devil, sickness, demons, Holy Spirit, God as person, angels and hell, are the results of the errors of the human mind.
  10. Unitarianism: This concept support the idea of “The denial of the Trinity of God as person”, which is complete supported by the Scriptures. The Godhead is well expressed throughout the entire Scriptures.

All these concepts are “twisted definitions and pagans beliefs and are connected with religions and not connected with the Scriptures”.

  • The Antichrist will bring worldwide peace”

For many years I have heard of people teaching about the antichrist’s ruling in which he is suppose to bring “worldwide peace”. But what the Scriptures says about it? We should search the Scriptures for answers, instead of believing every teaching we hear. John 5:39. Since his rising into power, the antichrist will bring destruction among the nations he will conquered. The Scriptures speak of the antichrist bringing “peace” only to Israel. Daniel 9:27 refers to the event as follow:

“And he shall confirm the covenant (of peace) with many for one week (one seven years): and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

He will break this covenant with Israel in the middle of the seven years of great tribulation. The Scriptures describes the raising of the antichrist as its follow:

“And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” Rev. 6:2

Note: DO NOT CONFUSE this rider with Christ, for it is Christ mentioned in verse 1 as “The Lamb”, who is opening “The Seals”. Verse 2 describes the “raising” of the antichrist, who will “go forth CONQUERING and TO CONQUER”. In case you didn’t know. it will take “three and a half years” to the antichrist to conquer the “three horns” mentioned in Dan. 7:20

“And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.”

also verse 24:

“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall SUBDUE three kings.”

After defeating the first “three kings”, the others will surrender without any trouble as its expressed in the following passage:

“For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.” Rev. 17:17

The antichrist will assume control of the ten kingdoms in the first part of the seven years, in which he will bring only war, except to Israel but that will change once to conquered the ten kingdoms.

By the way, the second seal of Rev. 6:3-4, which is a “Red horse”, indicating the result of the first horse. The passages says:

“And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was RED: and power was given to him that sat thereon to TAKE PEACE FROM EARTH, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”

Jesus also predicted these events in Mat. 24:6=7;

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”

another passage that refers to the destruction that will bring the antichrist:

“And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and BY PEACE SHALL DESTROY MANY: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” Dan. 8:25

Here is the moment when the antichrist will break the covenant with Israel:

“For when they (Israel) shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1 Th. 5:3

It will be the fulfilling of Zach. 14

Jesus will be the only one that will offer “complete peace” under his kingdom. The bible calls Jesus “The Prince of Peace”, not the antichrist:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” Isa. 9:6-7
  • It took Noah 120 years to build the ark”

There is no support in the entire Scriptures for this teaching and yet people believed it. We must read every passage within the context in which was written. This is something that we MUST do when reading the Scriptures. Let’s review some passages that will proof that it didn’t took Noah 120 years to build the ark.

Noah’s sons were married by the time God commanded Noah to build up the ark, as the following passage will show:

“But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.” Gen. 6:18

Correct? Ok, now let’s see another passage that will reveal the age of one of Noah’s son after the flood:

“These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an HUNDRED years old, and begat Arphaxad TWO YEARS after the flood.” Gen. 11:10

Shem was 98 years old when he came out of the ark. As you can see the teaching that it took Noah 120 years to build up the ark is just a fallacy. It took Noah some years but not 120 as many are teaching. Some even teach that before the flood didn’t rain over the earth because they had taken Gen. 2:5 out of context. Let’s see it:

“And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”

When according to the text “the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth”? it says “there was not a man to till the ground”. It did rained after God created Adam. Observe the following statement about the rain in the book of Job.

“To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man” Job 38:26

Even the Scriptures made reference to “Clouds” when the earth was under the ruling of Lucifer, before all was destroyed by the universal flood of Gen. 1:2

“I will ascend above the heights of the CLOUDS; I will be like the most High.” Isa. 14:14

The fallacy of Noah’s 120 years building the ark is the result of the poor interpretation of Gen. 6:5, which is a reference to “Adam” being corrupted and God declaring a sentence upon him. The 120 years in Gen. 6:5 is NOT a reference to Noah or the time that took Noah to build up the ark.

  • Russia will invade Israel”

This is another big fallacy about Russia. Let me make this very clear, There is no mention of Russia in the entire KJV. The only passage we can use in connection with Russia is found in Daniel 11:44, in which Russia is conquered by the antichrist as part of the countries “east and north”. In fact, Daniel doesn’t mention Russia not even one time. Most people mistakenly use Ezequiel 38 and 39 as a reference to connect Russia with the invasion of Israel but Ezequiel 38 and 39 express the events involved the antichrist invading Palestine at the end of the great tribulation, in which he comes as the “Prince of the north” after defeating Russia, Germany, china, etc. at the second half of the great tribulation. The only one mentioned in the Scriptures that will defeat Israel is the antichrist, after he had conquered the “10 kingdoms” or “ten horns” of Daniel 7:24:

“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he (the antichrist) shall be diverse from the first, and he shall SUBDUE three kings.”

After defeating the first “three kings”, the others will surrender without any trouble as its expressed in the following passage:

“For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.” Rev. 17:17

The duration of this war in which the antichrist takes control of the first three kingdoms is three and a half years, after which he will go and invade Palestine and will fulfill Mat. 24:15-21;

“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

also:

“Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Th. 2:4

The battle of Armageddon is predicted in Ezequiel 38-39; Joel 2-3; Zach. 14 and Rev. 19:11-21.

The Scriptures does NOT predict an invasion of Israel from Russia.

  • “Four horsemen of the Apocalypse”

This is a very popular fallacy, which passages are NOT expressing “Four Horsemen” but “Five Horsemen” instead. Let’s number each one of them and found out what the Scriptures says about it.

The horsemen are described in Rev. 6:1-8, which says:

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.” Verse 1

The Lamb or Christ is opening the seals, which exclude him from been inside the seals. Many people confused the rider of the verse 2 with Christ but such interpretation is wrong. Christ is the one opening the seal of verse 2. We must NOT confuse the rider of verse 2 with the one in Rev. 19:11-21, which is Christ on His second literal advent.

“And I saw, and behold a WHITE horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” Verse 2

The first seal reveals “The raising the antichrist”, who will go “conquering, and to conquer”. Again, This raider IS NOT CHRIST. This is the FIRST RIDER.

“And when he (Christ) had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was RED: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.” Verses 3-4

The second seal reveals “The effects of the wars brought by the antichrist in his raising”.

“And when he (Christ) had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a BLACK horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.” Verses 5-6

The third seal reveals “The famine caused by the previous seals”. So far each seal revealed one rider per seal. Correct? OK, now the next seal:

“And when he (Christ) had opened the FOURTH seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a PALE horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” Verses 7-8

The Greek word used for “Pale”, which is the color of the horse is “chlōros”, which is translated “Green”. The Fourth seal reveals “TWO RIDERS” and NOT “One rider” as many had mistakenly said. Let’s breakdown the passage:

“And I looked, and behold a PALE horse: AND HIS NAME THAT SAT ON HIM (The pale or Green horse) was “DEATH”. This is rider number “FOURTH”. the passage continue to say:

“and HELL followed with HIM (with DEATH)”. So, HELL is rider number “FIVE”. this fact is confirmed by the continuation of the passage that says; “and Power was given unto “THEM”, which is referring to “Death and Hell”. They are two distinct and separates beings working together. The same separation and distinction is made in Rev. 1:18; 20:13-14.

The mistake is made because of the association of “Four seals” with “Four Beasts or living creatures”. but the Scriptures are VERY CLEAR.

To avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation on any subject in the Scriptures, we MUST read the passage under the complete context in which it was written.

  • “Fallacies about The Godhead”
  • God The Father is the only divine being; The Son was created by The Father; The Holy Spirit was created by The Son.

  • God is a complicated person to understand and explain and that it is a nonsense to do so.

  • Jesus Christ is The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

  • God is a spirit and therefore he doesn’t have any form.

  • The Holy Spirit is not a person, just a force.

  • God is one person manifested in three persons or three beings.

  • The O.T. doesn’t revealed the Trinity.

  • The application of “Image and likeness” of God is only “Moral and Spiritual”.

These and others fallacies about The Godhead are been circulated throughout the years, which are creating confusion. We must search what God had said about Himself in the Scriptures and dismiss anything that contradict or conflict with God’s word. There is plenty of proof in the Scriptures about The Godhead and The trinity of God. There is no confusion about the subject in the Scriptures, if we just read it the same way God himself had said it. The following passage are prove that The Godhead ia a Trinity:

“And God said, LET US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Gen. 1:26
“And the Lord God said, Behold, the man IS BECOME AS ONE OF US, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.” Gen. 3:22
“And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, LET US GO DOWN, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” Gen. 11:6-7
“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against THE LORD, and against HIS ANOINTED, saying, Let us break THEIR bands asunder, and cast away THEIR cords from us.” Psalm 2:2-3
“That they all (all the disciples) may be one (in unity); as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in US: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” John 17:21

Did Jesus prayed for “ALL” the disciples to lose their own individualities and become one person? Of course not, Jesus prayed for all the disciples to be in “UNITY”. Also Jesus used a pronoun “US”, which implied “More than one person involved”. Jesus is in completed “Unity” with the Father.

“For there are THREE that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these THREE are one (in unity)” 1 John 5:7

Many others passages express the idea of three distinct and separate persons in the Godhead that are in complete unity.

In the Scriptures are 20,000 statements about God, which eliminates the ignorance about this subject.

By the way, the meaning of word “The Godhead” (meaning “divinity or divine nature”) is very misunderstood by many, even among Christians. The word is used related to God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit.

  • “Rest in Peace or RIP”

What happens when someone dies? does the person goes to a “Limbo” after death? what the Scriptures says about it? Many fallacies are out there and many are ignorant about what really happens after death but the Scriptures are very clear about this subject. Let’s review some Scriptures that explain what happens after death.

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2:26

This passage clearly states the departure of the spirit and soul in the moment of the physical death. The spirit and soul of each human being is eternal but because of the sin the body became mortal. Gen. 2:17. The Scriptures express that the spirit and soul of the righteous go to paradise (located in the third heaven) until the resurrection. read 2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:21-24; Heb. 12:23; Rev. 6:9-11. while the spirit and soul of the wicked go to hell until the resurrection. Luke 16:19-31; Isa. 14:9; Rev. 20:11-15. The physical body goes to the dust as it is stated in Gen. 3:19; Eccl. 3:19-21; Heb. 9:27; James 2:26. Sin will end and death will be destroy to finish physical death. 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Rev. 21:3-7; 22:3. After the Millennial kingdom of Christ there will be no more death and people will live for ever in their physical bodies.

In Luke 16:19-31 Jesus stated the consciousness of the inner person after dead. The Scriptures does not supports the unconsciousness of the spirit and soul after the physical death. The passages of Luke 16:19-31 are not a parable but rather a true story. Jesus used a direct name of “Abraham” in the story of Luke 16:19-31. Such usage is not part of a parable element.

Let’s breakdown the key elements in this real story told by Jesus himself:

“There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.” verses 19-21

These passages revealed the contrast between both man before their physical death.

“And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried”. Verse 22

This verse revealed the death of both man but the beggar was “Carried or guided” by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. Compare to Psalm 48:14. The Scriptures states that “God has appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” Heb. 9:27

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.” Verse 23

This passage expressed the consciousness of the inner man after dead. Why he lift up his eyes? because hell was located lower that Abraham’s bosom. Also it expressed “the pain” his inner man was experiencing since the he arrived in that place. He recognized Lazarus and Abraham, which confirmed that the memory is part of the inner man and not part of the physical brain. The brain send the information that receives through the physical senses to the mind/memory, which part of the human spirit and soul. These memories will produce a type of emotional suffering for all eternity.

“And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” Verse 24

The rich man asked for mercy but it was too late for him. Once in hell there is no more chances to ask for mercy. The flame in hell not only torture but it produce a state of complete despair.

“But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.” Verse 25

This passage prove that saints CAN’T answer prayers and also the law of reap and sow. The possessions, positions and powers that someone have on this life, does not guaranteed their place in heaven, as it is shown in this story. No person loses consciousness after death as many had suggested for the Rich man recognized not only Lazarus but Abraham and also that he have five brother. Luke 16:28. This story told by Jesus expressed the principle that “Mercy” can be ask before dead and not after. Luke 16:24. The Scriptures does not support the idea of “Purgatory” or “Limbo” but rather “Hell” or “Heaven”.

Where paradise is located? It’s located in the third heaven, which is the place where the new Jerusalem is located and where God lives.

“I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up (Translated)  to the THIRD HEAVEN. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into PARADISE, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” 2 Cor. 12:2-4

Paradise in the third heaven is the place where the righteous goes after dead. They will be there until the rapture of the church, from where they will come back to the earth with Jesus to receive their glorify bodies. 1 Th. 4:13-17.

Paradise is a place where to inner person or spirit and soul of each person is comforted, while hell is a place where the wicked id tormented.

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Psalm 9:17

The salvation of each person is by the GRACE of God through the sacrifice of Jesus. It CAN NOT be EARN by personal merits or works.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” EPH. 2:8-9
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Rom. 10:9-10
“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Cor. 6:11
“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:15-18

What do they feel in hell?

Besides the flames that are torturing their inner man, they feel: “Shame and Remorse, despair and desperation, Absolute hopelessness and emptiness. The fact that they will be separated from God’s plan for all eternity that will be the most torturing phase for all of them and they will spend their eternity in the lake of fire. Rev. 20:11-15

“Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.” Luke 16:29-31

The Word of God is the higher authority, which will be use in the day of judgement against anyone who reject it. Jesus rose from the dead and still people don’t believe. Hell is real whether people believe it or not.

How do we explain the word “Rest” used in Rev. 6:11?  it have to be understood under the context of the passages. Let’s review them:

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should REST yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.” Rev. 6:9-11

The word used from the Greek language for “Rest” is “anapauō”, which mean “to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation”. It doesn’t implied “unconsciousness” but rather “patient”, which is connected with “until”. The saints that were under the altar ask God to revenge their blood from the wicked in the great tribulation period but they received “White robes” and they are told to “wait patiently for a little long”.

The Scriptures does not support the unconsciousness of the inner man or the soul but rather it expressed the clear message of the consciousness of the soul after dead. Whether in hell or in paradise the soul remain conscious at all times. Many fallacies support the idea of “unconsciousness or sleeping of the soul of man after dead”, but these are just fallacies and not s scriptural teaching.

We will keep updating this list.
