How to Read, Learn and Understand The Bible

Things to consider when reading The Scriptures

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: THE WORDS that I speak unto you, THEY ARE SPIRIT, and THEY ARE LIFE” Jn. 6:63

Updated 03/15/18

If you’re looking for a good Hebrew-Greek dictionary I advise you to buy any Expository dictionary from W.E. Vine These dictionaries are a great tool for any bible student. It will make your comprehension of The Scriptures a lot easier. I don’t usually promote books but The Bible But in this case it is something that will help you and it is worth to share it.

A note before you begin: If you have trouble understanding The Scriptures is perhaps because you are trying to use your intellectual abilities and your reasoning to comprehend a book that reveals spiritual principles. This is one of many reasons why people have trouble learning The Scriptures. You must clean yourself from pagans ideas and fallacies and believe what you read in The Scriptures. Some people tend to blame the language of the version of the Bible to excuse their poor understanding of The Scriptures, like The King James Version, which used an old English language. If that is your case you might want to use the new versions of The King James or The Amplified Bible version. Also, keep in mind that some versions of the Bible are corrupted, which contains deviate meanings in their passages, and leading believers into confusion and fallacies. Avoid these corrupted versions like The Message, NIV, etc. Which had changed the meaning of the original language. For instance, in 1 John 5:7 the NIV had changed the words, language and the meaning of the passage. Notice the difference:

“For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement” 1 John 5:7-8 NIV

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” 1 John 5:7-8 KJV

Note: In the only sense that God The Father, God The Son and The Holy Spirit are one is in the sense of UNITY and not in the sense of person, as many wrongfully are teaching. The entire bible teaches of “Three distinct and separate divine persons”, which is known as “The GodHead”.

Now, observe how “The Message” version changes the language:

“A triple testimony: the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement.” 1 John 5:7-8

some argued that the expression “that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost” is not written in the original language. But notice how verse 8 connects three elements “the Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood” which are used on earth. The mention of three in verse 7 is connected with The GodHead. These bear record in God’s heaven. But some refuse to believe in The GodHead and they changed the language expressed in The Scriptures. Compare Gen. 3:22 where it used the expression “the man has become like ONE OF US”. Also Gen. 1:26 uses the expressions “Let US make man in OUR IMAGE, after OUR LIKENESS”. Other parallel passages  11:17; Psalms 2:2-8; John 17:11 “that they (disciples) may be one, AS WE ARE”. The same expression is repeated in verse 22. The Scriptures is very clear about The doctrine of The GodHead, which not too many believers had understood. Men are the ones to blame for making God’s Word hard to understand, because they have made up fallacies and false doctrines out of it. (The Message version of the Bible is one of the most corrupted versions in the market today. I will never advise anyone to use this corrupted version)

You need to know the difference between “Inspiration, Revelation and Illumination“. These three works in complete harmony, even though each one has its own function. Must people read The Scriptures and they have no clue about them and as a result they “disrupt the harmony in bounds the divine principles but the language expressed in the passage by the writer. I can’t explain in depth each one of these in this post but I can provide you with the basic meaning of each one. It’s very important for you to understand them in order to have a more wide comprehension of what God has said in His word.

What is Inspiration? It’s from the Greek word “theopneustos”, which means “inspired by God, which is the contents of The Scriptures”. The meaning of “inspiration” in the context of the text means:

That God gave direct instructions to the writer of each book. The harmony of each book in the Bible is only possible by the divine inspiration from God’s Spirit.

God is responsible for the record of the events placed on each passages but not for the actions mentioned in it, unless it is stated in the passages. For instance, Satan spoke in The Scriptures many times and the record of it is to show his deceiving acts but God is doesn’t have anything to do with his acts. So, inspiration assures you that the record is accurate as it happened. Observe what it’s stated in 2 Tim. 3:16 about it.

“ALL SCRIPTURE is given by INSPIRATION of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”

The Scriptures was given for the following reasons:

“Doctrine” any doctrine must be supported by The Scriptures. Otherwise it is a fallacy or a doctrine of men. We must teach according to what The Word of God says and remove any speculation and pagans ideas. If you are not formed in Jesus’s doctrine then you are molded according to human’s speculations and opinions of men. Observe what it’s stated in Mark 4:2 ” And he (Jesus) taught them many things by parables, and said unto them IN HIS DOCTRINE”.

“For Reproof” or for “Conviction”. The Greek word used is “elegchos”, which mean “a proof, that by which a thing is proved or tested”. Many believers are converted into Christianity but they are not convinced of it. Conversion into Christianity is done through being born again, while conviction is reached by the surrender of our ego and will to God’s Word. In other words, by the renewal of our mind. Rom. 12:2

“For Correction” from the Greek word “epanorthōsis”, which mean “restoration to an upright or right state” and “correction, improvement of life or character”. No one can achieve this restoration outside of The Scriptures.

“For Instruction” from the Greek word “paideia”, which mean “instruction which aims at increasing virtue”. Obedience is the result of the instructions of God’s Word. Why many are not being obedient to God? The lack of instructions in The Scriptures.

Again, God is responsible for the veracity of the record but not for the acts involved in each event, unless it’s stated by the passages in question. Here is where we need to use discernment, when we read a passage that the only purpose is to show the event and the individuals involved in it. On these passages we can use “the Law of double reference”, in which we can apply in a THE LIMITED SENSE the references implied in these inspired events. We cannot stretch a meaning of a passage to trying to explain an event that happened to us. The Holy Spirit is The Divine Agent that is supposed to guide us in such matters, which many people seem to ignore.

God “breathed” upon the different writers of The Scriptures to write the past, present and future events exactly as He told and showed them in various different experiences. Many people are trying to discredit The Scriptures but claiming that there are discrepancies in it but this is just a way of Satan to try discredit God. When two or more passages are conflicting with each other, that is the result of removing such passages out of their context and harmony. There’s no contradictions in The Scriptures if you use spiritual guidance and discernment and keep any passage under its own context. Anyone that has been born again can receive the understanding of each passage of The Scriptures. This is not only for those who are called to serve God in the main ministries but to anyone that has received The Holy Spirit.

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” 1 John 2:27

What is Revelation? The word from the Greek language is “apokalupsis”, which means “laying bear or making naked”, “a disclosure of truth or instruction, which concerns with things before unknown”, also is used with relation to “events by which things or states or persons hitherto withdrawn from view are made visible to all” and “manifestation or appearance”. Any of these meaning is use depending upon the context in which the word is used. It’s used 18 times in the N. T. The idea involved in the use of this word is “to reveal what is hidden”. The Greek word “apokalupsis” is used in passages such as:

Revelation, 10

Rom 2:5; 16:25; 1 Co 14:6, 26, Gal 1:12; 2:2; Eph 1:17; 3:3, 1 Pe 1:13; Rev 1:1

Revealed, 2

2Th 1:7, 1Pe 4:13

Revelations, 2

2 Co 12:1, 2Co 12:7

Appearing, 1

1Pe 1:7

Coming, 1

1 Co 1:7

Lighten, 1

Luk 2:32

Manifestation, 1

Rom. 8:19

Related to The Scriptures, the word “apokalupsis” is used with the purpose of revealed God’s truth from within the inspired word. In Ephesians 1:17 we have to perfect example:

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him”

The word “apokalupsis” is connected with “disclosing God’s truth” through the spirit of wisdom (broad and full of spiritual intelligence) and revelation, which is obtainable through The Holy Spirit. The church (the body of Christ, not the building) is supposed to be “build upon The Rock”. In Matthew 16:18 observe what Jesus said about it:

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and UPON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Who is the rock in the passage? The Catholic Church had called “Peter” the rock, but that’s a straight lied. What is stated in the passage before?

“And Simon Peter answered and said, THOU ART THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” verses 16-17

It’s very clear in the context of verse 18 that “the rock” is “Christ” and not Peter. The Catholic Church had twisted the meaning of the passage to support their fallacy. Jesus couldn’t build His church upon Peter, who was just a disciple. Observe the words of Jesus in verse 17. “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for FLESH and BLOOD hath not REVEALED IT unto thee, but MY FATHER which is in heaven”. Three things expressed by Jesus in this passage:

-That revelation is not connected with “flesh and blood”, which implies “humanity, abilities, human’s faculties”. The human intellect is also included in it. God is the one that prepares the believer to achieve His purpose through the heavenly calling. Heb. 3:1

-No one will possess the divine experience about Jesus as The Son of The Living God unless it is REVEALED by THE FATHER. Many people have a intellectual knowledge but The Word has not been revealed to them. In fact, there are many ministers in churches that are leading others and they have not received God’s Word by revelation but rather by their intellectual capacity. In Gen. 1:11 we found a divine principle that was established by God and this divine principle works on the spiritual realm and the physical realm. Here it is:

“11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and THE FRUIT TREE YIELDING FRUIT AFTER HIS KIND, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.”

The fruit of the tree will depend upon the kind of seed that is planted. What kind of seed are we planting on the spirits of the believers? The answer is on the fruits that is produce by the believers. God’s Word is powerful to transform anyone that needs a change. Why are the believers fruitless? Because many have replaced God’s Word for fallacies.

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of INCORRUPTIBLE, by THE WORD OF GOD, which liveth and abideth for ever.” 1 Pet. 1:23

If we plant God’s Word in the spirit of the believer as it stated in The Scriptures we will see God’s power pouring out and God’s name being glorify. God’s ways to operate has been changed by man’s methods and that is why we are not effective as we ought to be. Just because someone is leading a group of people that doesn’t mean God has placed that person on that position. Many had put themselves in ministries, which had brought up a drought of God’s presence in the place of congregation. Others had lost their way from the path in which they started and had become numbed or insensitive to God’s presence. Please read what happened to the high priest Eli in 1 Sam. 3, which is a perfect example why many are still in a position but have lost their way.

-The third thing expressed by Jesus in verse 17: Anyone that received such revelation is “Blessed”. Which comes from the Heavenly Father.

Peter received the revelation from The Father about  Jesus being “The Christ, The On of The Living God” and yet he didn’t understood it until Jesus explained to him. You might have received a revelation from God but you have no understanding of such revelation.

But revelation without the next one (enlightenment) it can be fruitless.

We have so many examples of people receiving a revelation from God but they didn’t comprehend it until they seek the answer from God. Let’s take as a example Daniel 8, which revealed the raised of the Grecian Empire and the defeated of the Persian Empire. In the vision the Ram is represented of the Persian Empire as it is stated in verse 20.

“The RAM which thou sawest having two horns are THE KINGS OF MEDIA AND PERSIA”

While the Grecian Empire is represented by the He Goat as it is stated in verse 21.

“And the ROUGH GOAT is THE KING OF GRECIA: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king”

But Daniel didn’t understood the divine revelation which was given to him through a vision. Observe the last passage of Daniel 8.

“And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at THE VISION, BUT NONE UNDERSTOOD IT”. verse 27

The interpretation of verses 20-21 was given unto Daniel by Gabriel as it is stated in these passages.

“And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, HAR SEEN THE VISION, and SOUGHT FOR THE MEANING, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, MAKE THIS MAN TO UNDERSTAND THE VISION. So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, UNDERSTAND, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.” Dan. 8:15-17

God will always provide you with the meaning of any revelation, if you are “diligent” in seeking the answer.

What is the definition of Illumination? The Greek word used for “illumination or enlightenment” is “phōtizō”, which means;

“to give light, to shine, to enlighten, light up, illumine, to bring to light, render evident”. Also “to cause something to exist and thus come to light and become clear to all”, “to enlighten, spiritually, imbue with saving knowledge, to instruct, to inform, teach, to give understanding to”. Again, the meaning that apply to any particular passage must harmonize with the subject matter. This Greek word is used 15 times in the N. T.

Illumination or enlightenment is when “the real meaning is comprehended without twisting, forcing or bending the divine principle involved in it”. God is the only one that can provide with the real meaning of what He has revealed. Unfortunately, thousands of people are relying more on the opinions of men and fallacies than trusting God himself. This is why we have so many different concepts about what The Scriptures says on any subject. Shame on anyone that trusts fallacies and false doctrines than God.

For instance in Ephesians 1:17-18 says:

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, THE FATHER OF GLORY, MAY GIVE UNTO YOU THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM: HE EYES OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING BEING ENLIGHTENED; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”

Just as it is stated in Mat. 16:17 The Father gives this revelation and wisdom in the knowledge of Him. So, here in Ephesians 1:18 expanded the way God made us understand the revelation by enlightened of the eyes of our understanding. What is the purpose of this enlightenment? It’s stated in the rest of the passage “that ye may KNOW what is THE HOPE OF HIS CALLING, and what THE RICHES OF THE GLORY OF HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS”.

By the way, “riches” in the passage is not a reference to “get rich in this world”, as many people are doing but rather expressed “our glorious redemption, which will take place when we are glorified and for all eternity. Don’t let Satan to confuse and corrupt you with the temporary things of this world. Some famous preachers had been corrupted by “the love to the money” ignoring the warning placed in The Scriptures:

“For THE LOVE  of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Tim. 6:10

I must clarify that is not the money the root of all evil but rather The love of it. God is supposed to be the center of your life and not the things He provided for us. There’s where many people loose their way and falls into Satan deceiving ways. How can I identify a corrupted minister? By his message. Is he bringing glory to God’s name or preaching about financial gain? You don’t have to be a theologian to know the difference between the men of God and those who are corrupted by material things. Even The Holy Spirit can guide you to know the difference. Rom. 8:16. Anyone that spends more time talking about financial blessings more than God’s salvation, redemption, healing, etc. Is just corrupted. Jesus spent more time talking about God’s Word than any financial gain. Don’t be deceived by this demagogues, use spiritual discernment!

Thousands of people read the Scriptures and have come out with wrong ideas, fallacies and even they had used The Scriptures to establish religion and cults. What is the reason for this? Well, there are many reasons but one common mistake is that they take passages of The Scriptures out of the context. Forcing the passage to say something that is not expressed in it. There is a warning to anyone that try to twist the meaning of what God has expressed in His Word.

“For I testify unto EVERY MAN that HEARETH the words of the prophecy of this book, IfF ANY MA shall ADD unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And IF ANY MAN shall TAKE AWAY from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Rev. 22:18-19

We MUST respect the order in which God had layered His own thoughts in The Scriptures. Is the Bible hard to understand? NO, if we let The Scriptures speak for itself. Many ministers had perverted and corrupted the meaning of passages with the purpose of justifying their own false doctrines and perverted ways. Why is out there so many beliefs and different doctrines? The answer is very simple, must people read The Scriptures and give them a different interpretation. One thing that I have noticed is that many people had been converted into Christianity but they still dragging the pagans ideas with them. Then, they mixed what The Scriptures says with these pagans doctrines, creating a different meaning of what God had said. When any person receives Jesus as Lord they must cleanse themselves from any corrupted and pagan doctrine. Observe the following passage:

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Rom. 12:2

How do I renew my mind? The answer is expressed in the following passages:

“Wherefore LAY APART (implied an action from you) all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and RECEIVE WITH MEEKNESS (surrender to it) the engrafted word, which is ABLE (have the ability and power) TO SAVE (the word is connected with your transformation) your souls. BUT be ye DOERS of the word, and NOT HEARERS ONLY, deceiving your own selves.” Jas. 1:21-22

The sanctification of the believer is not limited to the old life style but rather to every area of such person.

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your WHOLE SPIRIT and SOUL and BODY be PRESERVED BLAMELESS unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Th. 5:23

We must replace all the pagans ideas that we learnt when we were without Christ for what The Word of God says without any hesitation. The reason why we attend to a building called “church” is that we can learn who is our God and the divine principles and laws through which God’s kingdom is ruled. Are christians learning these divine principles? Unfortunately no, because churches have become  Businesses and places for entertainment and because of this there is no spiritual growth. We cannot compromise The Word of God for temporary and material things. Esau is placed as an example:

“Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat SOLD HIS BIRTHRIGHT. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found NO PLACE FOR REPENTANCE, THOUGH HE SOUGHT IT CAREFULLY WITH TEARS.” Heb. 12:16-17

Many people today are compromising God’s truth with the corrupted system. Satan is using money, fame, illicit sexual acts, etc. to deceive the believers, so that they don’t achieve God’s purpose in their lives. Many warnings are placed in The Scriptures so that we are not ignorant about it. Observe what Paul says in the following passages:

“For such are FALSE APOSTLES, DECEITFUL WORKERS, TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES INTO the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is TRANSFORMED into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Cor. 11:13-15

Noticed that the Greek word used for “Transforming or Transformed” is “metaschēmatizō”, which in both passages means “to change the figure of, to transform”. How can be distinguished the ministers ordained by God and Satan’s messengers? Through “spiritual discernment”. This fact is stated in the next passage:

“Beloved, BELIEVE NOT EVERY SPIRIT , but TRY the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1

In The Scriptures we found “4 different kinds of spirit beings” these are; “The GodHead, angelic beings (which involved God’s angels and fallen angels), human spirits and evil spirits”. Not because someone calls himself a minister of God we are going to believe everything he preaches. The Scriptures advises us to “Try every Spirit”. The Greek word used for “try” is “dokimazō”, which mean “to test, examine, prove, scrutinise (to see whether a thing is genuine or not), as metals”. The implication in this word is to “to recognise as genuine after examination”. One of the reason why the believes are not effective against the kingdom of darkness is because believers are not growing spiritually and not developing spiritual discernment. The Word of God is powerful enough to equipped us with spiritual discernment.  If you don’t know The Scriptures you cannot distinguish between God’s works and Satan’s deceiving ways.

Can I buy commentaries to make a easy to understand The Scriptures? Some commentaries are indeed very clear on specific subjects. The issue with relying on commentaries to learn about a specific subject of The Scriptures is that the writers mixed up their own opinions in their books. This is a serious issue which bring up confusion and doubts to the readers. Religions and cults are formed through a erroneous ways of interpretating passages of The Scriptures. If you don’t have a strong foundation and knowledge of The Scriptures you can be deceived by these writes, whose purpose is to spread their own corrupted and pagan ideas. So, before you buy any book make sure that the writer is a person that is not imposing his own ideas above of what God has stated in the Bible. Some writers are into the book business to make profit for themselves and not to glorify God. The increase of these writers in the United States had skyrocket in the past 10 years just because is very lucrative but at the same time had brought divisions and confusion among many. Observe the warning placed in the book of Ephesians 4:14.

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”.

These false teachers are very hard to spot if you don’t rely on the guidance of The Holy Spirit. They use “Cunning Craftiness”, which it comes from the Greek word “panourgia”, meaning “a specious or false wisdom”. The word implied “misleading, deceptive and false” under the context of this specific passage. Satan is deviating people from the path of truth through these books. This is why the guidance of The Holy Spirit is so important today. Any book that divide the Word of Truth correctly will produce “spiritual growth” and not just spreading information. Many people are reading books that only produce “intellectual growth” but lack of Scriptural foundation. Observe what the following passage reveals:

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim. 2:15

You need to distinguish what writers are “Rightly dividing The Word of Truth” and those who are using The Scriptures to profit for themselves and to propagate lies and deceit. There’s no way for someone to recognize the differences between the truth and satan’s lies without knowing The Scriptures.

Now, to receive God’s truth you need to depart from any erroneous teaching as it is stated in the following passage:

“Cease (come to an end), my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” Prov. 19:27

You need to make a decision whether to believe God and Hid Word or to keep following Satan deceiving ways. God will need force to to do anything but rather He will persuades you in love and by the guidance of The Holy Spirit.

God will guide you to know the truth:

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH: for he shall not SPEAK of himself; but whatsoever he shall HEAR, that shall he speak: and he will SHEW you things to come.” John 16:13

By the way, The Holy Spirit is a person and one of the three members of The GodHead. The Holy Spirit is not just an “active force” as many false teachings says.

How am I supposed read the Bible and extract the meaning involved in a passage without mixing my own ideas and opinions?

You must be aware of a few things when it comes to extracting the meaning placed inside in a passage. Keep in mind the following things:

-Pick a specific subject of The Scriptures; that will make the study more easier. That being said, you need to find where in The Scriptures God has spoken about it and once you find it, you need to understand what it means. In other words, you need to find where God has said it (in reference to that specific subject) and what He meant with what He had said. This means that you need to search every passage in reference to that subject and once you do that you need to put it in the order in which was placed by God. Here is where most people failed. They read one passage and they extract the passage out of its own context and forced the passage to express a different meaning of what it was meant to say. How do I know when I’m forcing a meaning of a passage? When such meaning conflicts with others passages and creates confusion. Every passage related to that specific subject must harmonized with each other. If two or more passages are conflicting with others we need to correct any mistake we have made. There’s no contradictions in The Scriptures as many corrupted men had suggested. The work of Satan is to create such contradictions so that people in need won’t believe in The Scriptures. We must keep silent when The Scriptures keep silent. What do I mean? There’s some subjects of The Scriptures where not every detail is revealed. Some ministers have the bad habit of speculating and give their own opinions, which invalidates the effect of The Power of The Word of God. Observe what it’s stated in Deut. 29:29 concerning “the things that are kept secret and the things that are revealed to us.

“The secret things BELONG unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed BELONG unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

what are these “secret things”? The things we are not yet able to comprehend but after the glorification of our physical bodies we will be able to understand them. Many things are happening today that we are not able to absorb because of limited understanding and the lack of spiritual growth. These limitations will be removed from us and then we will understand it. Many people question God in things that occur in their lives and blame God of things that God has nothing to do with it. Now, the passage reveals more to us, it says “but those things which are revealed BELONG TO US and to OUR CHILDREN FOR EVER”. What are “those things which are revealed”? That’s everything that was placed by God in His own Word; every promise and benefit expressed in it.

what things do I need to consider when interpret or extracting the meaning of a passage? It’s important to consider the following things:

-The Context in which the passage was written, which covers history, mentality of the writers, the prophecies involved, etc.

-The original language used by the writer, which is different from the wide variety of versions of the Bible used today. If the word used in the original language contains different meanings, it’s critical to be impartial and match the word that harmonizes with the context of the text. It’s also important keep in mind what is “the subject matter” expressed in the passage

-The circumstances that prompted God to provide such passage

-The divine principles placed by God through the writers

-Find “the subject matter” of the text. Do not fill the sequence or order of the text with speculations. Learn to keep silent where The Scriptures are silenced.

-The customs and culture of the people who the book was addressed to

-Do not force your own interpretation upon any passage of The Scriptures. Some people read The Scriptures with preconceived ideas and forced them upon the text which changes the original meaning

Note: some versions of the Bible had “diluted” the meaning of what the passage really means by changing the language and words used in the original text. This is why is very important to examine the passage under its original language and context. This method is used by religions and cults to deceive people.

Some passages of The Scriptures are kinda of difficult to understand, what can we do? The Lord have given “ministerial gifts” to provide a balance spiritual growth to the body of Christ, which is the church. Unfortunately today many are using a ministerial position to control the believers and for financial gain and not to serve the believers. What any calls “ministers” today are a corrupted concept which is opposite to what Jesus said. Observe the following passages:

“But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes (rulers) of the Gentiles exercise DOMINION OVER THEM, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. BUT IT SHALL NOT BE SO AMONG YOU: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Mat. 20:25-28

The word “minister” mean “a servant” and not “a ruler” as many people are doing today. The pagans rules, control and manipulate the nations and they only purpose is to use them for their own benefit. But among the believers are supposed to be the opposite. In Ephesians 4:11 details 5 main ministerial gifts given to the church:

“And he (Jesus) gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers”

what is the priority number one of these 5 ministerial gifts? It’s stated in verse 12-14:

“For the PERFECTING of the saints (the believers), for the work of the ministry, FOR THE EDIFYING OF THE BODY OF CHRIST: Till WE ALL COME IN THE UNITY (not division) OF THE FAITH, and of THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF GOD, unto A PERFECT (mature) MAN, unto the measure of the stature of the FULLNESS of Christ: That we henceforth be NO MORE CHILDREN, TOSSED TO AND FRO, and CARRIED about with EVERY WIND IF DOCTRINES, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”.

These are the commissions  given to every ministerial gift, which bring forth “spiritual growth” to every member of the body of Christ. Believers are not growing spirituality for the lack of teaching The Word as God had given it. The church will not be effective as God has said it until we go back to The Word. We must learn and walk on Jesus’s doctrine.

“And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in HIS DOCTRINE”. Mark 4:2

Many are teaching their own doctrines, ideas and fallacies and not God’s Word. How can I distinguish between human ideas and The Word of God? By discernment of the Holy Spirit and by knowing The Scriptures. Every message must be aligned with what God has said. But if we don’t know what The Scriptures says, how can we make a separation? Every Sunday thousands of people attend to churches and hear messages that are not aligned with God’s Word and produce not results in their lives. When The Word of God is exposed under the anointing of The Holy Spirit it produces real results.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: SO SHALL MY WORD BE THAT GOETH FORTH OUT OF MY MOUTH: it shall NOT RETURN UNTO ME VOID, but IT SHALL ACCOMPLISH that which I please, and IT SHALL PROSPER in the thing whereto I SENT IT.” Isa. 55:9-11

Jesus knew perfectly the importance of the teaching of God’s Word. He spent great part of His ministry teaching The Scriptures, especially to His disciples. Here in the United States a great number of preachers are teaching their own ideas and opinions and they had replaced God’s Word for fallacies. They are just entertainers of crowds but they will reap what they are sowing. Corrupted men like Joel Osteen (who is more interested in selling books), Pat Robertson, T. D. Jake, Creflo Dollar, Joseph Prince, Paula White, and the list goes on. Why believers are not separating the true from the false? For the lack of spiritual discernment. They spent years attending to a building and listening to human’s fallacies and they had lost the real meaning of fellowship. They had allowed religion to replaced The Gospel, which is the power of God. Rom. 1:16

It’s very important to have a “teachable aptitude” in order to learn The Scriptures. I’ve seen many believers struggle to learn and understand The Bible because of the accumulation of “preconceived ideas”, which is preventing the seed to grow. Observe what Jesus said related to this kinda of “heart” in Mark 4:16-17

“And these are they likewise which are SOWN ON STONY GROUND; who, when they have HEARD THE WORD, immediately RECEIVE it with gladness; And HAVE NO ROOT IN THEMSELVES, and so ENDURE FOR A TIME: afterward, WHEN AFFECTION OR PERSECUTION ARISETH for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.”

Satan has attacked the church for years in a cunning way, in which he had infiltrated false doctrines and fallacies causing with it the lack of spiritual growth. The teaching of God’s Word is so important today like never before. It’s time to get rid of these fallacies and start teaching about what God’s Word really says.

Please allow me to repeat again James’s passage that expressed what kind of aptitude we need to have in order for The Word to be effective in our lives:

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and RECEIVE WITH MEEKNESS the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls”. James 1:21

False doctrines and human theories can make The Scriptures ineffective in the process by which God change the life of any believer. God’s Word is filled with power to transform any person that surrender his will to God.

-We must be willing to accept and believe God’s Word above any other teaching and ideas

-Never compromise the divine principles expressed by God in The Scriptures

-It’s critical to be diligent, consistent and open minded when studying The Scriptures

-It’s important to develop dependability in The Holy Spirit when learning The Scriptures and not relying on our human emotions and abilities, which develop the intellect and reasoning of the soul.

I pray that our God will give you wisdom and understanding to comprehend His Word, Amen!
