“Follow peace with all men, and HOLINESS, WITHOUT which NO MAN shall SEE the Lord” Hebrews 12:14

Three things revealed in this passage:

“Follow peace with ALL men”. Peace is a fruit of a born again spirit as it is stated in Gal. 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

The second thing is “and (follow) holiness..”. Which is separation from any kinda of contamination.

The third thing is “Without which no man SHALL SEE The Lord”. Some people are teaching that we will never see The Lord, but that is NOT what the scriptures says about it. In fact, the last chapter of Rev. 22:4 says:

“And they (His servants) SHALL SEE HIS FACE; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

But the requirement to spent the eternity with God and to see His face is holiness, or separation from a sinful life style.

We are going to lay out what the Scriptures says about one of the most important subjects of the Scriptures, “Holiness”. Sadly, the majority of churches or places where Christians people get together, this subject has been ignored by the leadership. In fact, the most important subjects of the Scriptures had been replaced by fallacies and opinion of men and entertainment. This is the reason why the work of Christians are INEFFECTIVE today. I assure you that by the end of this post, you will have a complete understanding of what the Scriptures says about “Holiness”. We will use as a reference God’s word and nothing else, which is the divine source of it.

What is Holiness? Let’s review some passages before we define the meaning of it.

“For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore SANCTIFY yourselves, and ye shall BE HOLY; for I AM HOLY: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I AM HOLY.” Lev. 11:44-45

This passage is quoted by Peter:

“But AS HE which hath called you IS HOLY, so BE YE HOLY in ALL MANNER (not some but ALL) of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Pet. 1:15-16

Here is the biblical definition of Holiness:

“Holiness consist of separation of any type of contamination from any form of sin. This act involve every part of the individual, who is been called to be as The Lord our God. Can a man be holy as God is Holy? Yes, but holiness is a PROCESS that starts when the individual SURRENDER his will to God, REPENT of the SINFUL LIFE STYLE and the person is BORN AGAIN by the Word of God and The Power of The Holy Spirit. John 3:3-5;

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a MAN BE BORN AGAIN he CANNOT (Not able or capable) see (To understand, perceive, comprehend) the kingdom of God. (Jesus is MISUNDERSTOOD by) Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except (Unless) a man BE BORN of water (God’s Word)and of the Spirit (Power of The Holy Spirit), he CANNOT ENTER into the kingdom of God.” John 3:3-5
“BEING BORN AGAIN, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, BY THE WORD OF GOD, which liveth and abideth for ever.” 1 Pet. 1:23

So, The first step for any person to live in holiness or separation from evil, is to BE BORN AGAIN, which take place when the person receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, as it is stated in Rom. 10:9-10:

“That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Some people wrongly believe that because they were born again, after they received Jesus as Lord and savior, they are saved and they no need to do anything else. This doctrine was introduced by a corrupted person and not by God’s word. Because we are saved by God’s grace in the moment that we received Jesus but after that we are REQUIRED to renounce our old life style. We are called to be separate from a sinful life and cleanse ourselves from any contamination. Notice what it is expressed in reference to this in the following passage:

“Having therefore these promises (chapter 6), dearly beloved, LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES from ALL FILTHINESS  of the flesh and spirit, PERFECTING holiness in the fear of God.” 2 Cor. 7:1

Let’s breakdown this passage:

“Let US cleanse ourselves”. This is something that we have to do, not God. We must create an attitude of rejection against any evil thing. God won’t force you to reject sin, you have to be WILLING to reject it. If you are born again and sin still have control of your life style, don’t blame God for it. It is imperative  to surrender your life completely and reject anything that will deviate you from God’s path.

“from ALL FILTHINESS”. The Greek word used for “filthiness” is “molusmos”, which means “defilement, an action by which anything is defiled, contaminated or polluted”. Observe how this is connected with 1 Cor. 6:16-18

“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for YE ARE the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will DWELL in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye SEPARATE, saith the Lord, and TOUCH NOT THE UNCLEAN THING; and I (GOD) will receive you. And will be a FATHER unto you, and ye shall be MY SONS and DAUGHTERS, saith the Lord Almighty.”

It is important to reject any unclean or evil thing whose source is sinful in nature. Holiness is connected with separation. There must be a separation between a sinful life style and a holy life. There is no such thing as I’m a born again christian and living a corrupted and sinful life. When a person is born again, God removes the sinful nature and place into the human spirit, God’s own nature, which is “Eternal life”. John 3:15-6.

Let’s continue explaining 2 Cor. 7:2

all filthiness of THE FLESH  and SPIRIT”. These are 2 different type of filthiness, from which we must be cleanse. Holiness is required to any person that had done the first step into the kingdom of God; Born again. John 3:3-5. Separation from ALL SIN and IMMORAL living and consecration to a holy living. These 2 types of filthiness will affect the relationship between the believer and God. We must explain that holiness is instant in the human spirit by the act of being born again, but in the Soul and body are progress. we will explain the sanctification of the human spirit, soul and body as we explain deeper the concept of holiness.

The filthiness of THE FLESH are clearly stated in Gal. 5:19-21.

“Now the works of THE FLESH are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The filthiness of THE SPIRIT are clearly stated in Psalm 19:12-13.

“Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from SECRET FAULTS. Keep back thy servant also from PRESUMPTUOUS SINS; let THEM not have DOMINION OVER ME: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from THE GREAT TRANSGRESSION.”

“Secret faults” the Hebrew word used  “secret” is “sâthar”, which means “to hide or conceal”. secret faults is a reference to an act or decision, which are sinful in nature and are kept hidden. These concealed sins must be confess to God and depart from then. Prov. 28:13. The Hebrew word for “Presumption”  is “zêd”, which is related to “a person whose life style is sinful”. This word implied a high level of “arrogance when committing sin”. The person is committing sin without any type of fear toward God and he is willingly and deliberate sinning. Compare with Jas. 1:13-15. Satan has introduced “Hyper Grace”, which is a concept that have corrupted many people. Hype Grace breaks the boundaries placed by God, in which anyone that is saved, can keep doing sin without losing salvation. The problem is that salvation will remain upon us as long as we are obedience to God’s word. But people seem to forget that salvation must be associated with separation from a sinful life style. Hyper grace promotes a kind of sinful life, in which the sensitivity of the Holy Spirit will slowly disappear. When a believer reach a state when sinning is normal, then he have crossed to do “Presumptions sin”, or “committing sin in a willingly form”. Today preachers are so distracted with “material blessings” that had stranded from the biblical message. Observe what it happened with the apostles in the beginning:

“Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is NOT REASON that WE SHOULD LEAVE  THE WORD OF GOD, and SERVE TABLES. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. BUT WE (the leadership) will give ourselves CONTINUALLY  TO PRAYER, and TO THE MINISTRY OF THE GOD.” Acts 6:2-4

This passages revealed why must preachers are not doing God’s purpose for them, they are serving the tables, instead of getting in PRAYER and THE MINISTRY OF GOD. Any minister that promotes a sinful path will receive exactly what they are sowing. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Gal. 6:7

Should be afraid of losing our salvation? If you’re living according to God’s word, there is should be nothing afraid of. In fact, Rom. 6:13 Paul stated the following:

“Let not sin therefore reign (Have dominion) in your mortal body, that ye should OBEY it in the lusts thereof. Neither YIELD  ye your MEMBERS (of your body) as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: BUT YIELD  yourselves UNTO GOD, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” Verses 12-13

When we commit sin, we yielded our will to sin through the temptation. So, the real question here is; How can I reach a spiritual state that I will not yield to sin? The key is “spiritual growth”, which is the result of receiving the incorruptible seed in your born again spirit. 1 Pet. 1:23

Now, notice how corrupted teachers misuse the next passage of Rom. 6.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” verse 14

This passage had been misinterpreted and used with evil purpose. The promoters of Hype grace says that “you’re under grace, so you won’t be condemn when you sinned”. But they don’t tell you that there’s boundaries that should be no crossed. What are these boundaries? It is stated in the next passage of rom. 6.

“What then? SHALL WE SIN, because we are NOT UNDER the law, but UNDER GRACE? God forbid.” Verse 15

Shall we sin? meanings “Shall we willingly and deliberate commit sin because we are cover by God’s grace? God forbid. What is exactly Paul saying in here? He is revealing that “We are not under Moses’s Law, which demands absolute obedience, without providing any strength, ability or power to obey. We are under grace (in Christ), which demands THE SAME ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE to God’s commands, but provide us with forgiveness for any sinful act and strength, ability and power to obey”. This is followed by:

“But God be thanked, that ye WERE the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was DELIVERED you. Being then MADE FREE sin, ye became the SERVANTS of righteousness.” Verse 17-18

Anyone that uses God’s grace in Christ to promote a sinful life is corrupted to their very root. To top it off, Romans 6 finished with the following passage:

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Verse 23

The recompense of a sinful way is death. The death in reference here is to “spiritual death”, because “sin is spiritual”. Compare with Gen. 2:17. Does it mean that I will receive spiritual death because I committed one sin? No, spiritual death is bring forth after anyone have received salvation but he has BECAME ENTIRELY corrupted and his ways are sinful in nature. No one can experience spiritual death, which is separation from God, unless such person were restored first from his previous condition. After Adam betrayed God, Sinful nature was passed to every living person by birth, but Christ came to removed the sinful nature and provide for us, eternal life. John 1:12-13; 3:14-21

If you’re a born again person (Jn. 3:3-5) and you’re living a life separate from sin, we should not be worry about losing salvation. Observe 1 John 5:16-17.

“If any man (Christian person) SEE ( knowledge of, understand, perceive) his brother (Who is also Christian) sin a (KIND OF) sin which is not unto DEATH (spiritual), he (that brother that caught his other brother in Christ) shall ask (Pray The Lord for), and he shall give him (that one that sinned) life (spiritual restoration) for them that SIN NOT UNTO DEATH. There is a (KIND OF) sin unto (that lead to) death: I DO NOT SAY THAT HE SHALL PRAY FOR IT. ALL unrighteousness is sin: and there is a (KIND OF) sin not unto death (spiritual).”

If you have nothing to hide, there should be no distress upon you; but don’t take Grace for granted. I wish I could explain more about “The process of spiritual death in a born again believer”, but I’m just laying down the concept about “Holiness”. Saved always saved is a corrupted doctrine that leads believers to maintain a sinful way of life. DO NOT BE DECEIVE BY these false teachers, who are more interested in financial gain by promoting books. Anyone that uses God’s grace to justify sin is not inspire by The Holy Spirit. Avoid books from  Joseph Prince, Matt Chandler, Tchividjian (who is a Calvinist), Paul Ellis, etc. These are supporters of the Calvinist doctrine, whose teach and believe in the following statement:

“”What is hyper-grace?” Answer: The term hyper-grace has been used to describe a new wave of teaching that emphasizes the grace of God to the exclusion of other vital teachings such as repentance and confession of sin. Hyper-grace teachers maintain that all sin, past, present, and future, has already been forgiven, so there is no need for a believer to ever confess it. Hyper-grace teaching says that, when God looks at us, He sees only a holy and righteous people. The conclusion of hyper-grace teaching is that we are not bound by Jesus’ teaching, even as we are not under the Law; that believers are not responsible for their sin; and that anyone who disagrees is a Pharisaical legalist.”

In biblical words:

For there are CERTAIN MEN crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, UNGODLY MEN, TURNING THE GRACE of our God into LASCIVIOUSNESS (shamelessness), and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude verse 4

Just be alert of any line of teaching or doctrine that break the boundaries placed by God in His own word to profit and corrupt the divine principles. these corrupted teachers are promoting within the body of Christ; Legalism, Universalism, The Emerging Church, The Prosperity Gospel (which focus more on material things than seeking God’s purpose), The New Age Movement, etc.

“The Calvinist teachers on the other hand believe God is ultimately responsible for salvation. This upholds His sovereignty while taking the weight off the person and making it entirely of grace including the gift of faith to believe (God sovereignty draws His elect to Himself). God is given all the glory for doing the saving. This would be great news if it applied to ALL people but it doesn’t. It only applies to a few called “the elect” or “a remnant.” This is just as subjective as the Armenian paradigm. One never quite knows if he/she is among the elect. One can feel like a Christian, do all the works to prove to themselves they really are the elect but in the end it creates the same angst and lack of assurance.”

Here are some of the Popular Calvinist grace teachers: Max Lucado (Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine), Brennan Manning (Ragamuffin Gospel and All Is Grace), Scot McKnight (Embracing Grace: A Gospel for All of Us), Joseph Prince (Unmerited Favor), Steve McVey (Grace Walk), Paul Ellis (The Gospel In 10 Words, The Gospel In 20 Questions), and Andrew Farley (The Naked Gospel).

And here are some of popular Calvinist grace teachers:

Dr. Timothy Keller (The Prodigal God), Matt Chandler (The Explicit Gospel), Jerry Bridges (The Transforming Power of the Gospel), Tullian Tchividjian (Jesus+Nothing=Everything; One Way Love), Scotty Smith (The Reign of Grace), Robert Farrar Capon (“…the Outrage of Grace”) and Steve Brown (Scandalous Freedom: The Radical Nature of the Gospel).

The last section of 2 Cor. 7:1 says “PERFECTING holiness in the fear of God”. This part of the passage is very clear, which expressed that “without the fear of the lord, no one will perfect holiness”. The Greek word used for “perfecting” is “epiteleō”, which means “to bring to an end, accomplish, perfect, execute, and to complete”. It implied “a process which will bring holiness into a higher level”. How this perfecting holiness is accomplish or achieve?  Through spiritual growth, which beginnings in the spirit and it extend to the soul (will, reason, intellect, emotions and mind) and the body. Here is another passage that complement this concept:

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.” Exo. 20:20

Here we have two types of Fears: “The fear that comes through the senses and make you afraid”. This is the type of fear that is use by satan to control men; and “The fear of the Lord, which keep you away from sinful acts. The fear of The Lord keep us sensitive to any sinful act against God. Without The fear of The Lord is impossible to maintain a clean spiritual life.

“The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” Psalm 19:9.

The Hebrew word used in relation with “The fear of The Lord” is “yir’âh”, which it have the following meanings; “Fear (of God), respect, honor, and reverence. It’s used 43 times in the Old testament. Gen 20:11, Exo 20:20, Deut. 2:25, 2 Sam. 23:3, 2 Ch. 19:9, Neh 5:9; 5:15, Job 4:6; 6:14; 22:4; 28:28, Psa 2:11; 5:7; 19:9; 90:11; 111:10; 119:38; Pro 1:7, etc.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction”.

May our God keep you from any corruption and increase in His Holiness!
